    An Ontology for Submarine Feature Representation on Charts

    A landform is a subjective individuation of a part of a terrain. Landform recognition is a difficult task because its definition usually relies on a qualitative and fuzzy description. Achieving automatic recognition of landforms requires a formal definition of the landforms properties and their modelling. In the maritime domain, the International Hydrographic Organisation published a standard terminology of undersea feature names which formalises a set of definition mainly for naming and communication purpose. This terminology is here used as a starting point for the definition of an ontology of undersea features and their automatic classification from a terrain model. First, an ontology of undersea features is built. The ontology is composed of an application domain ontology describing the main properties and relationships between features and a representation ontology deals with representation on a chart where features are portrayed by soundings and isobaths. A database model was generated from the ontology. Geometrical properties describing the feature shape are computed from soundings and isobaths and are used for feature classification. An example of automatic classification on a nautical chart is presented and results and on-going research are discussed

It presents the focus of latest research in AIEd on reducing teachers' workload, contextualized learning for students, revolutionizing assessments and developments in intelligent tutoring systems. It also discusses the ethical dimension of AIEd and the potential impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the future of AIEd's research and practice.     Study of wind pressure and air quality around Children's Hospital, National Medical Center

Daly Company.Includes bibliographical references.Tests were conducted on a model of the proposed Children's Hospital Facility constructed (1:192 scale) in the Colorado State University Meteorological Wind Tunnel to determine air quality and air pressures around the building. The pressure measurements concentrated on the mean and RMS of the fluctuating pressure at selected locations. Air quality measurements were made by releasing Krypton-85 from specific sources of pollution and sampling it at all the intakes around the building. Data are presented in a manner that these can be directly used to evaluate pressures and air quality. Also, based on these data, recommendations are made on locating the air-conditioning intakes and the sources of pollution

    Automatic generation of dynamic skin deformation for animated characters

Since non-automatic rigging requires heavy human involvements, and various automatic rigging algorithms are less efficient in terms of computational efficiency, especially for current curve-based skin deformation methods, identifying the iso-parametric curves and creating the animation skeleton requires tedious and time-consuming manual work. Although several automatic rigging methods have been developed, but they do not aim at curve-based models. To tackle this issue, this paper proposes a new rigging algorithm for automatic generation of dynamic skin deformation to quickly identify iso-parametric curves and create an animation skeleton in a few milliseconds, which can be seamlessly used in curve-based skin deformation methods to make the rigging process fast enough for highly efficient computer animation applications

    Low rate of non-compliance to antituberculous therapy under the banner of directly observed treatment short course (DOTS) strategy and well organized retrieval system: a call for implementation of this strategy at all DOTS centers in Saudi Arabia

    Introduction: The objective of this study was to show the effectiveness of revised retrieval system on non-compliance. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the effectiveness of a revised retrieval system on non-compliance during continuous phase of antituberculous treatment (Jan-2005 to Dec-2010) compared to baseline non-compliance (Jan-2002 to Dec-2004). Results: In the baseline period, 141 of 501 (28%) patients did not attend their first appointment. Of these 141 patients, 63 (45%) patients could be brought back to treatment while 78 patients (16%) dropped out and could not be retrieved. During the 2nd phase after launching a revised retrieval system, 98 of 835 (13%) patients did not attend their first appointment. Using the retrieval system, 79 (81%)  atients were brought back for regular follow up, and 19 patients could not be retrieved, a dropout rate of 2.27%. By virtue of revised retrieval system, there was a significant drop in non-compliance by 15% and a decline in net dropout rate by 14%. The number of those brought back to treatment by revised retrieval system almost doubled (81%) compared to 44% retrieval in initial period. Conclusion: The revised retrieval system had a significant impact on the reduction of dropout rate and significant improvement in the retrieval of those patients
